History

The history of cannabis as a medical plant is several thousand years old: medical applications are documented first in old Egypt and China, later in India, Arabia and Greece and from ancient Rome. In medieval times, e.g., Hildegard von Bingen or Paracelsus report intensively about cultivation and usefulness of hemp.

Although cannabis preparations were still frequently used around 1900, they completely disappear in the middle of the 20th century: the reasons are the medical-pharmaceutical development, economic aspects, the disputed effectiveness and - last but not least - substantial legal restrictions (Drug Laws).

State of Affairs

For some years now, hemp as a useful and medicinal plant experiences a revival: researchers, scientists and physicians work worldwide on the phenomenon cannabis - hemp activists fight for a fair judgement on a stigmatized plant and for the right to use it as medicine.

In the public discussion it becomes clear that smattering of knowledge and prejudices dominate the evaluation of hemp. Again and again the thesis is to be heard that patients put forward their illness in order to obtain their drug by devious means. A completely unreasonable reproach, because the dosages used for the therapy are often much too low for habitual marihuana users which are only looking for intoxication - a fact which is obviously hardly known in public.

Numerous patients report of large successes by using cannabis as a medicine (particularly AIDS- and cancer patients use cannabis against nausea or loss of appetite, for more info please see "Medical Uses") - and commit a criminal offence at the same time. The cultivation is forbidden, as well as purchase and passing on. Anyone getting caught must calculate to lose his driving license, because every user is treated like a regular drug consumer who is denied to be able to take part in road traffic. It does not play a role whether the patient ever sat "high" behind the steering wheel of his car or not.

"Hempīn Health" / CannaBusiness 2001
The Special Days "Hempīn Health" as a part of the upcoming CannaBusiness want to inform and point out the necessity to dedicate more objective attention to the useful and medical plant hemp.

A high-carat lecture schedule, held by physicians, scientists, lawyers, politicians and activists, is framed by a broad platform for information, workshops and consulting in the fields of nutrition, medicine, body care and alternative cures, the current legal situation, self help groups and much more.

The lecture programm starts at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Please check out this site again during the next weeks to read about the lectures, the speakers and much more. The CannaBusiness-newsletter will keep you informed, too.
